Mastersingers Intermezzo Choir
For Those With Alzheimer's and Dementia
The Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers have announced their latest community outreach program, the Intermezzo Choir, beginning in January, 2020. This new initiative is designed for individuals suffering from dementia, such as Alzeimers disease, and for their care-givers. The program is under the direction of Mastersingers Artistic Director, Shannon Arnold, working in tandem with a board-certified music therapist. The initial ten-week session of the new chorus will begin on Wednesday, January 22nd 2020. There will be a $25.00 fee for participants.
The Intermezzo Choir will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Parkway, Cape Coral, 33904 beginning on January 22nd. Weekly rehearsals will focus on vocal techniques, using new and familiar music to provide a positive social and emotional outlet. Singers will warm up working on breath support, rhythm and movement, and ensemble skills. Each participant will be given a music notebook with lyrics and sheet music, along with a practice CD.
There will be a public concert scheduled in the last week of March to allow participants to share their accomplishments with friends and family. A volunteer singing partner will be paired with a person living with memory loss to assist singers during rehearsals and performances, if a family member or care partner is not available.
